Plascoat products are used to coat oil pipelines, bends, fittings and field joints

Oil and gas pipelines

Plascoat provides the Oil & Gas industry with a range of high performance polyethylene and polypropylene coating powders for pipelines, including field joints, pipe bends, buckle arrestors, fittings and other support structures. Plascoat Oil & Gas products are designed to meet stringent Oil & Gas specifications.

Plascoat FSPE for coating field joints, bends and fittings

Plascoat FSPE is a flexible polyethylene coating powder that has been specifically developed to melt into adjacent polyethylene pipe coatings, already factory applied to the pipe body, to form a water tight bond. In comparison to other polyethylene field joint products, it is easier and much quicker to build up thick coatings when applying by the flame spray method.

Plascoat FSPE offers one key advantage over commercial alternatives in that it does not bounce off the pipe surface during application. This minimises powder loss and associated material costs.

Product features include:

  • a low brittle temperature of -94°F and a Shore D hardness of 53
  • the ability to build up thicknesses to greater than 118 mils
  • a OIT that is greater than 40 min

Plascoat PP10 for coating field joints, bends and fittings

Plascoat PP10 is a flexible polypropylene coating powder that has been specifically developed to melt into adjacent polypropylene pipe coatings to form a water tight bond. In comparison to other polypropylene field joint products, it is easier and much quicker to build up thick coatings when applying by the flame spray method.

Plascoat PP10 offers six important advantages over commercial alternatives:

  • can be flame sprayed, using appropriate equipment
  • has a high vicat softening point of 240°F and a Shore D hardness of 62
  • can be applied at greater thicknesses than 118 mils
  • requires less heat to flow out, avoiding potential yellowing problems
  • does not bounce off the pipe surface during application, thereby minimising powder loss
  • OIT is greater than 40 min

Plascoat PP20 and PP10 for oil pipes, bends and fittings operating at high temperatures

Plascoat PP20 and PP10 polyolefin powder coatings have been developed to withstand the operating conditions of hot oil pipelines. Both coatings can be applied by flock, sinter or fluidised bed methods directly onto fusion bonded epoxy or steel.

Plascoat PE09 and PE10 for oil and gas pipes, bends and fittings

Plascoat PE09 and PE10 polyolefin powder coatings have been developed to withstand a wide range of operating temperatures including sub zero conditions. Both can be applied by flock, sinter or fluidised bed methods directly onto steel.

High friction coatings

Plascoat make and supply, highly textured, Roughcoat top layer products that provide additional friction between the pipe and surrounding materials such as insulation, concrete or soil.
